Console Black Scale — Art 84

A waterfall console where the top is composed of overlapping scale shapes in dark lacquer over an eggshell base — a graphic, almost reptilian surface that reads as both pattern and texture. The deep maroon body provides a quiet frame for the active top.

The scale composition is built up by hand: eggshell base laid first, then dark lacquer scales placed one by one, then sealed and polished. The contrast of matte eggshell against glossy lacquer gives the surface its depth.

Materials: Hevea wood, natural lacquer, eggshell

Finish: 30+ layers of natural lacquer, hand-polished to satin lustre
