Negoro lacquer — a centuries-old Japanese technique where red lacquer is applied over black, then worn to reveal both layers. The Negoro tradition dates to 12th-century Japanese monasteries. Red lacquer is layered over black, then carefully polished at the edges and curves to expose the dark layer beneath. The result suggests age and use — a new object that carries the memory of time.
