Atelier Commissions · Bespoke since 1976

Bespoke pieces for the world's most exacting houses.

Five decades of master craftsmanship in natural Cambodian lacquer. Eric Stocker creates one-of-a-kind pieces for hospitality groups, luxury maisons, and private collectors — using the same techniques that conserve sandstone Buddhas at Angkor and furnish France's national heritage.

The Lotus Collection

The brief called for a piece that would feel inseparable from the building — something no traveller could photograph elsewhere. Eric proposed a series of eight lacquer panels, each depicting a lotus at a different moment of unfolding, finished in 24k gold leaf on a deep black natural lacquer ground.

Production took five months. Each panel received between 25 and 35 layers of lacquer, with the gold leaf hand-applied flake by flake during the final phase. The installation was completed during the resort's 2019 renovation and remains visible to every guest entering the lobby.

Logistics & terms · Salle VI

How shipment and
payment work.

Payment

50% deposit on approval of concept and samples. 50% balance on completion, before shipment. Bank transfer (USD or EUR), or invoice via Wise. We do not accept payment milestones during production.

Crating & shipping

Each piece is custom-crated with museum-grade protective foam, internal armatures for sculptures, and humidity-stable packing. Worldwide via DHL Express with full insurance. Typical transit: 5—10 business days from Siem Reap.

Customs & duties

We declare actual transaction value (legal requirement). Cambodia issues handcrafted-art certificates where applicable for reduced duty rates. Local import duties remain the buyer's responsibility per international convention.

Installation

Wall pieces ship with mounting hardware appropriate to weight. For installations over $25,000, on-site supervision is available (travel costs additional). Detailed care and maintenance documentation included with every piece.

Insurance

Goods insured for full declared value during transit. Coverage handed to buyer on receipt and signature. We can recommend art-grade insurers for ongoing coverage.

Confidentiality

NDA available on request — standard for hotels, brands, and private commissions. We never disclose client details, location of installation, or commission terms without explicit written permission.

Frequently asked · Salle VII

Before you write.

What is the typical lead time?

Three to six months for most commissions. Large-scale installations (10+ pieces, monumental sculptures) may run six to twelve months. Cure time on natural lacquer cannot be accelerated — every project plans around it.

Do you visit sites for installations?

For hospitality and luxury retail commissions over $25,000, on-site visits during specification or installation are available. Travel costs are quoted separately.

Can I see samples before committing?

Yes. After concept approval, we ship physical material and finish samples to your studio for sign-off. This is included in the deposit milestone — no additional fee.

Is the lacquer durable enough for high-traffic spaces?

Natural lacquer is one of the most durable surface finishes ever developed — antique lacquer pieces from the 17th century are still in daily use. With 20—50 cured layers, the surface is water-, scratch- and stain-resistant. Suitable for hotel lobbies, restaurants, and private homes alike.

Do you offer exclusivity?

Yes. For brand commissions and limited-edition collections, we sign exclusivity agreements that prevent us from producing similar pieces for competitors during a defined period.

Can you produce in volume?

Our production is artisan-scale — typically 50 to 200 pieces per year across all projects. Volume orders (50+ matching pieces) are possible but require a minimum lead time of nine months.

Do you work with interior designers?

Frequently. We collaborate with designers across hospitality, residential, and commercial projects. Trade pricing and expedited communication available for repeat partners.

What is not possible?

We do not produce in synthetic lacquer or polyurethane finishes. We do not undertake outdoor pieces (natural lacquer is sensitive to UV over decades). Pieces under 10 cm rarely justify the production overhead.

Eric Stocker is the only artisan I trust for natural lacquer at this scale. The pieces have a depth that simply does not exist elsewhere — and once you have seen them in a room, nothing else compares.
